Buy a New Camera

As most people know, I love taking photographs and collecting the pictures. In this digital age, it is easy to hit 50,000 pictures and more, and trying to decide what to keep becomes an ever time-consuimg job. So, why I would want to buy another camera seems kind of crazy, but that is what I just did.

I saw that the local Walmarts were having a sale on point-and-click cameras. There was a Canon that I saw at the beachside Walmart, but they had none left on my visit Wednesday and sent me to Palm Bay. Here is what the camera looks like...
So on Thursday past, I headed to the Palm Bay WalMart to see if they still had it in stock. Interestingly, the person who was sent to the camera area to help me was a young man with Down Syndrome. He was very helpful and found the camera. When he saw that it was red, he said it would be better if it was blue and orange. I asked if he was a Gator fan and he said yes, big fan. He wanted to know my favorite college team and I told him I did not have one. He accepeted the answer but he thought I should have one. There was no one at the electronic registers and he said he could not do the register. He escorted me to the photo area where I bought the camera. This young man was very personable, and unlike some sales people today, he actually seemed to like his job.

The reasons for wanting a camera like this are many. I wanted a camera I could bring to the Amway Center. My phone does not do too well there so I am hoping I can catch some photos at the March Madness next week. There are times I like having my big Canon EOS 70D, but sometimes it is nice to have a camera that fits in my pocket. I read the manual (okay sort of read it) and charged the battery. It takes the same data card as my other cameras so I did not need to buy a new one of those.

Now I needed to test the camera out. I found out it does video too. I decided to go for a walk locally to try it out and see how good the pictures are.

Of course, I needed a picture of me first....

I wanted to see how it did without a flash, which it does have...

Looks good inside, let's see how it does with some light...

I headed out to US1 and decided to walk to Squid Lips. This pelican was on a pole in the Eau Gallie River. I like how his feet form over the top of the pole....

Needed to test out the landscape shots...this is from the North side of the Eau Gallie River near US 1.

I also wanted to try out the zoom capabilities...

And of course, I like to take pictures of food. This is the conch fitters at Squid Lips...

I have mentioned before that I have become a local guide on Google Maps. I have posted 53 photos which have had 63,693 views. The camera does a pretty good job for food, but so does my phone camera if there is light. But this will be a great back up.

I needed to test the camera in shade and see how it does on words....can you read the marker below?

I did catch a picture of a boat that is for sale. Real cheap I hear....
My new boat!?
I also wanted to see if the camera could do the unusual....I took this down the street in my neighborhood...

Well, I bought a new camera and I am happy so far. It slips in and out of my pants pocket easily, and it takes great photos. I am not sure what the battery life will be and there are lots of modes on the camera I need to try. I did take one video so far but it was not worth sharing. The adventure continues...

  1. Enjoyed reading this one. Reminds me of Harry, he rather enjoys photography as well.
