Quest for a Reuben

I had an inkling for lasagna and went out found a local place that served it like I like it. When I make lasagna, I make a whole pan and then I freeze some and eat the rest, and usually throw some away. It is just too much so I found going out for some will normally tickle my fancy and usually, the craving is gone for six more months. The same is true for Reuben sandwiches. Sometimes, I get the craving, but I do not want to buy all the fixings for one sandwich.

On Facebook, I asked for people's favorite Reubens and I got twelve people to respond. Some of the places will have to be more than a lunch hour since they are out of state. Here is the list I have so far:

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Yesterday, I went to Kelly's Burger & Beer, #9 on my list. Not only did I get to try the Reuben, but it was a new restaurant for me. It was number 10 for the year; although I should be at 12.

First things first. They put up new signs at Wickham Park...

Now some information on Kelly's Burger & Beer, recommended by my cousin Jim Provoncha. The place is located in Melbourne on Wickham Road, just south of Sarno Road and at the same spot where Frankie's Wings use to be. The inside has been completely redone and it is almost too clean. I took pictures of the Main dining area and a photo from the U-shaped bar. Of course, I sat at the bar.

Of course, I wanted to order the Reuben. It came with French Fries but I substituted the potato salad because I thought it would be fewer calories. I think I was wrong.

It was a red potato salad and it was very good, and there was more than a small scoop. The Reuben was great. Lots of corn beef, the rye was toasted and there was plenty of sauerkraut and Russian dressing (aka thousand islands). Here is a close-up of the sandwich.

Delicious! I give this place a 3.0 (great) and I plan to come back sometime for the Steak & Cheese sandwich, recommended by my friend Beverly Burns. The guy next to me, who I think was one of the owners, was having that sandwich and it looked great too! Other than being too clean, I thought the place was very nice and I plan to go back. I will end the post with a sign they had put up...

Please feel free to let me know about more Reubens...Bon Appetit!
