One of my "go to" recipes when I have some black bananas is my mom's Banana Bread recipe. In My Life, this has always been my favorite. The recipe was shared in the Provoncha Newsletter which is still the one I use. My dad started the Newsletter back in the 1980s as a way to share family information and news. He did the whole multi-page issue on his typewriter. I would help out by copying the number of issues he would send out. Of course, I did this at work, don't tell anyone.
After Dad passed away in 1991, I asked mom if she wanted to continue the Newsletter. She did. She would gather up all the information she wanted to include and I would assemble it together using Microsoft Works on my PC at home. By the 1990s, I had a color printer so I did the whole production at home. Sounds like I need to start sharing some of that data.
Well, I made a loaf of the bread and shared the fact on Facebook including this picture.
I jokingly mentioned the one banana that was left, felt sad because it was not invited by the rest of the bunch to be in the bread. Well, Beth Dow sent me a Banana Cookie recipe that only needs one banana. I immediately made some cookies. They turned out great, and tasted very similar to the banana bread.
I have included the recipe which she had sent me through messaging.
I was so impressed with myself that I remembered that mom use to make the best Peanut Butter cookies. The search began. I have a box full of my Mom's recipes. Some were from her collection, and some were from the collection she made for me when I first bought my house. There are also many written by my Dad. I found four copies of this recipe that I plan to try. Banana Oatmeal Cookies
I have included three of the four copies. The top one looks like either my brother John or Dad. The second is definitely my Mom's, she had the best penmanship. The third was probably typed by Dad on his Newsletter printing press.
Another interesting recipe were Hermits. I don't remember them but the recipe looks great.
I found multiple cards for these Unbaked Cookies. Look how many it makes!! It was on both sides of the card.
I am assuming this recipe is one she used when she worked at the High School Cafeteria. I never remember her making 1200 cookies at home...
The last two I share also look good, but I did not find any cards for Peanut Butter Cookies.
So I sent a request on Facebook. My cousin Patti sent me a few she found and Beth found the 3 ingredient cookie, which I could create by eating from the jar with a sugar bowl to dip each spoonful. I actually found multiple copies of the 3-ing recipe.
The one I used was sent by Sarah, wife of my nephew Jared. The recipe she had was for 4-5 dozen cookies, more than I needed, so I roughly halved the recipe. I need to work on my size but they turned out pretty good for the first try. I plan to share some with the servers at Lou's tomorrow. Hey, look, I have two bananas getting black. Three I make bread. now with one I make cookies, but with two I make Banana Muffins.
Since I have lived in Brevard County, there has always been a bridge across the Sebastian Inlet. But there was a time, In My Life, when there was no bridge. I grabbed this shared photo of the inlet with no bridge.
In 1965, they built the bridge across the inlet. This following photo was taken during the Grand Opening. The road is A1A, which last year was renamed the Jimmy Buffet Memorial Highway from Georgia to Key West.
Another shot of the opening looking south along A1A,
A more current photo of the bridge, which is now 60 years old.
The plan is to replace the bridge in 2026. This is an artist rendering of the planned height change. When I use to sail with my friend Peter, his 38 foot sailboat was too tall to go through the inlet. We either had to go out at Port Canaveral by going through the Locks, or head south on the Indian River and go out at Fort Pierce. I actually have done it both ways.
Funny, I found this link to a photo of the Port before Cruise Ships and locks. But that will be a future post.
About Title
I think this may be my favorite Beatle Song. Must have been the piano.
"In My Life" is a song by the English rock band the Beatles, released on their 1965 studio album, Rubber Soul. Credited to the Lennon–McCartney songwriting partnership, the song is one of only a few in which there is dispute over the primary author; John Lennon wrote the lyrics, but he and Paul McCartney later disagreed over who wrote the melody. George Martin contributed the piano solo bridge.
According to Lennon, "In My Life" was his "first real major piece of work" because it was the first time he wrote about his own life.
In 2000, Mojo named "In My Life" the best song of all time. Rolling Stone ranked it number 23 on its 2004 list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time", and number 98 on the 2021 revised list, as well as fifth on its list of the Beatles' "100 Greatest Songs".
Nice post! I still have a box of my mom’s recipes on index cards. She sent them with me when I left home for my first full-time job in Madison, Wisconsin.

Some of the recipes must be priceless. Weird to see no cruises at the port!
