My Bucket list item to visit 12 new restaurants in 2025 is on schedule, visiting my second NEW place. I was looking for A Taste of Honey, and I found so much more at 28 North Gastropub in Viera...
When you walk into the place, you find a very fancy, eclectic array of decorations and adornments. When I arrived, the bar was empty so I decided to sit there. The photo shows two guys but they came after me and I took the photo as I left. There were a variety of different styles of bar stools, so I picked one with a pillowed bottom since I had just spent 90 minutes at Brevard Zoo.
This place only recently starting serving lunch. I had arrived at 2 PM and the lunch menu was good until 2:30. My bartender/server was Cat, with a "C". She said it is her initials and kind of stuck early on. I said I was BJ and did not explain the history of that name. FYI, my Doctor was BJ Andrews and my mom had named me Brian Joseph. The nurse noticed it was BJ, just like the Doc...
So here is part of the Lunch menu...
Cat also brought me the dinner menu so I could peruse that too. Since I was her only customer for a while, we were able to talk. I found out she was from Colchester Vermont and her parents got tired of the winters and headed to the Melbourne area. We had good discussions of local food and drink establishments.
The backside of the dinner menu...
I ordered the Poke Tuna which happened to be on both the lunch and dinner menus at the same price. There was a lot of tuna topped with assorted sauces.
I tried to take a photo of the poke with my beer, but you know me, I focused on the beer. The beer was a glass of Green Bench Skyway Hazy Double IPA. ABV was 8.2%. The Green Bench Brewery is located in Saint Petersburg I have visited it with my friend Teresa.
Across from me was a large clock, just behind the beer taps.... That is when I started to notice a definite Steam Punk vibe. I went to an event in Orlando where my niece Lori and her husband James were all dressed in "Steam Punk". Cat said the clock runs on batteries and it is a real pain to change them
My second beer was Sandy Feet, a Florida Wheat from Walking Tree Brewery in Vero Beach. There address is 3209 Dodger Road, I think my cousin Pam knows where that is. Its near Dodgertown. Cat told me it a great place to visit and have a few beers. Anyone want to join me?
After eating, I took a few more pictures of the décor. It is right next door the the Pizza Gallery, and I found out that it is also owned by the same group. I use to visit Pizza Gallery when it was on Sarno Road, in the same building that now houses Long Doggers.
The large photograph on the wall is historical Melbourne.
They do have a back patio that is outdoors, I have seen live music back there. I have tried to visit this place before but they are always packed. Apparently it is not well known that they now serve lunch.
They have another dining room inside and also has an outdoor patio. I liked the chandeliers.
My last photo is of the Steam Punk bathroom. Lucky for them, I returned the beers...
I give the 28 North Gastropub a 4.0 (Excellent). Cat gave me the Happy Hour beer deal so my second beer was free. That was a nice added touch. I will be back...
About Title
"A Taste of Honey" is a pop standard written by Bobby Scott and Ric Marlow. It was originally an instrumental track (or recurring theme) written for the 1960 Broadway version of the 1958 British play A Taste of Honey which was also made into the film of the same name in 1961. The original and a later recording by Herb Alpert in 1965 earned the song four Grammy Awards.
A vocal version of the song proved successful for Lenny Welch in mid-1962.
The Beatles performed Lenny Welch's adaptation as part of their repertoire in 1962, slightly changing the lyrics in the chorus. Because the instrumental version by Acker Bilk was popular in the United Kingdom at the time, the song was chosen to be recorded for their 1963 debut album, Please Please Me. A version from that time was released in 1977 on the album Live! at the Star-Club in Hamburg, Germany; 1962.
In the US, this song first appeared on the Vee-Jay Records album Introducing... The Beatles. They also performed "A Taste of Honey" seven times for BBC radio shows, including Here We Go, Side by Side, and Easy Beat. In 1967, McCartney was inspired to compose “Your Mother Should Know” based on a line taken from the screenplay.
