"You've Really Got a Hold on Me" (Books 21-25)

You've really got a hold on me. My 25th book was of this caliber. It took me almost the whole month to read. Thank God I read some short ones too. I am a little behind my goal of 40 books in 2025. Here are books 21 through 25.

the stranger in the lifeboat (#21)

Written by Mitch Albom; published in 2021; 288 pages; BJ Score 3.0 (Great)

This was the author's seventh novel. It was a fast read for me, made me think about religion and other things. People are in a lifeboat and some pray to God who then appears in the boat and...you will have to read it.

The Life of Chuck (#22)

Written by Stephen King; published in 2025; 58 pages; BJ Score 3.0 (Great)

This was a short novella by Stephen King, from his book called If It Bleeds. I was actually looking in B&N for King's latest novel (see Book 20) and I saw this, of course I am going to read it. The Life of Chuck became a 2024 American fantasy drama film written and directed by Mike Flanagan. The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mia Sara, Carl Lumbly, Benjamin Pajak, Jacob Tremblay, and Mark Hamill, with narration by Nick Offerman. Its plot follows the formative moments in the life of Charles "Chuck" Krantz, chronicled in reverse chronological order, from his death coinciding with the end of the universe to his childhood.

Now I have to see this movie...

The Metamorphosis and Other Stories (#23)

Written by Franz Kafka; published in 1915; 224 pages; BJ Score 3.0 (Great)

Always wanted to read. Wow! It is some weird stuff.

Unsolved Conspiracies (#24)

Written by Bill Price; published in 2018; 224 pages; BJ Score 2.0 (Good)

Non-fiction book on sale at B&N. It had some good items but most I have read before. May be good as a reference...

Bleak House (#25)

Written by Charles Dickens; published in 1853; 816 pages; BJ Score 4.0 (Excellent)

This became book #80 on my list; and it was #23 on my original list of books to read. Another excellent book by Dickens, Although very long and at times slow reading. I enjoyed the book immensely. There were a lot of characters in the book which at my age, sometimes are hard to remember who was who. This was the 5th book by Dickens I have read since 2020. Regardless of the title, the book is many more things than just bleak. I am truly glad not to be living in England in the mid-1800s.

About Title

"You've Really Got a Hold on Me" is a song written by Smokey Robinson, which became a 1962 top 10 hit single for the Miracles. One of the Miracles' most covered tunes, this million-selling song received a 1998 Grammy Hall of Fame Award. It has also been selected as one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll. It was recorded by the Beatles for their second album, With the Beatles (1963). Many other musicians also recorded versions.

"You Really Got a Hold on Me" was the first song recorded for the Beatles' second British album, With the Beatles, and was included on their third US album, The Beatles' Second Album. It features John Lennon and George Harrison on lead vocals with Paul McCartney on harmony vocals.

The Beatles recorded the song on July 18, 1963. This session took place while Please Please Me was still at number one in the album charts four months after its release, and in the midst of a rigorous touring schedule that also had to include BBC sessions for radio and television. It was completed in seven takes, four of which were complete. The group then recorded four edit pieces. The final version was an edit of takes 7, 10 and 11.

The Beatles also recorded "You Really Got a Hold on Me" on four occasions for BBC radio in 1963. One of these, from July 30, 1963 was included on the Live at the BBC collection. A live version recorded in Stockholm, Sweden, in October 1963 was released in 1995 on Anthology 1. The song was performed once again in 1969, during the Let It Be recording sessions, and featured in the 1970 documentary film, Let It Be.
