"I'm Looking Through You" (aka Books 21-25)

Image
The title "I'm Looking Through You" is probably more appropriate when I am trying to find books at Barnes & Noble or at the library than the actual reading of the books, but I wanted to keep my Beatles title theme going. We are still in July, but I have already read 25 of the planned 36 books for 2024. According to Goodreads, I am five books ahead of schedule. But the bucket list is still long and I keep finding other books not on the list that I want to read. The original bucket list was from an article I saw listing the top 100 novels everyone should read, then I found other lists and also asked friends for suggestions and now the current list has 265 books. It was in August of 2019 that I started to read from the original 100, just about five years ago. The first was Moby Dick by Herman Melville. I have read 71 books from the full bucket list, 41 of them from the original 100. There were 21 books I had read before making the list, some more than once, and decided

"I've Got a Feeling"

I will admit as I get older, the heat and humidity seems to bother me more. Just doing simple things outside makes you sweat. I've got a feeling I need to find simpler things to do. I was suppose to go to a concert with my nephew Brandon but I knew I would not survive the many hours we would be at the old Citrus Bowl. I had to back out and I regret that, I am sure the bands Def Leppard, Journey and Cheap Trick were all great. I did go out to watch the release of a 375 pound loggerhead turtle at Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach. I think everyone else in the county also showed up. Biggest crowd I have ever seen at one of these releases, co-sponsored by Brevard Zoo. There were so many people it was hard to get shots of the event. Here is Bubba, heading toward the roped-off crowd. The crowd was so big I had to take two pictures... There was one lady from the Lazy Turtle, a local restaurant and bar in Palm Bay, dressed as a turtle. She was getting a lot of advertising with plenty of pho

"Your Mother Should Know"

This post is about cooking soup from scratch. I have a great cookbook with just soups and I have tasked myself to make a different  recipe twice a month. If I was doing this 25 or more years ago, and if there was a complication in the recipe, I would call my Mom because Your Mother Should Know. Most of my family has worked in the food industry. Well today would have been my Mom's Birthday. She was born in 1928. She died in 2001. But whenever I cook, my Mom is always in my thoughts. Just like in the photo here, it appears I am asking my Mom where something is and she is pointing it out to me because  Your Mother Should Know. BTW, we were on Mount Royale in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The latest recipe I tried was in this great soup cookbook titled The Soup Book 200 Recipes Season to Season . I plan to try many of the recipes and already have done about four. First the ingredients for the meatballs using only half of the Spanish onion. The finished meatballs. Suppose to be the size of

"Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da"

Digital Hoarding XI More from my collection of images that make me laugh, feel good about the world, or just make me happy! I hope you like them too. Historical I like collecting old historical (or is it hysterical) pictures. I think this is from the 1950s. No arrows toward the Space Coast where I live. I always love seeing old menus and the prices are just unbelievable. I usually grab photos from hurricanes that hit near me in Florida. This is Hurricane Ian. It did pass over Melbourne but after the Florida Peninsula took away most of its destructibility. I have shared a lot of photos from my over 20 years of Spring Training games at Space Coast Stadium. This is a photo of when it was still under construction in 1993. Photographs I love to grab photographs of beautiful things. This one is of the football field at Middlebury College. This is just a beautiful shot of a switchback road in Norway. The Northern Lights were extensive this past year and I just love this shot of Nubble Lighth

"Carry That Weight"

Image
In my last post, I was thinking of changing my Bucket goals on eating, to make it more inclusive to places I have already visited, as well as trying new places. My mindset it to watch my diet so I do not have to "Carry That Weight". The plans are not set but I did get to visit a new place that opened in June in Eau Gallie. In the site of an old Furniture Store that had become an antique furniture store. Not sure of the history of the building but it has been there as long as I have been coming to Eau Gallie back in the 1960s. The renovation has been going on for a while and since I cross the Eau Gallie Causeway a lot, I am always passing the building. The first problem I saw was that there is not a lot of parking in the downtown Eau Gallie area, also known as the Eau Gallie Arts District (EGAD). I found a spot but it was only 4:30 on a Tuesday. In the photo, I am walking toward the large building from the East along the Eau Gallie Blvd. There are two entrances and I choose t
